Join MineralsEd Partner-Teacher Eric Rustand for a tour through the Absorbent Materials Ltd. processing facility in Kamloops, BC. Find out how diatomaceous earth and montmorillonite clay are extracted, processed, and used to make fertilizers, pet care products, and industrial absorbents.

Absorbent Products Ltd. is dedicated to the research and development of innovative and environmentally friendly products in the Industrial, Agricultural and Retail sectors.

Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to/from the meeting location. This field trip is limited to 14 participants - register early!

Meeting Time & Location: 8:45 am at Absorbent Products Ltd. (724 Sarcee St E, Kamloops, BC V2H 1E7)

Tour Time: 9:00 am-11:00 am

Important Notes: This field trip may involve some walking over unpaved and rocky and/or slippery surfaces, please wear sturdy, closed toe shoes. Please bring your own snacks and water. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available to participants during the tour, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own. If you have your own hard hat and/or hi-vis clothing, please bring them along, otherwise these items can be provided for you.

What to Bring: Closed toe walking shoes, camera, notebook, pen/pencil, backpack, snacks, water, face mask, hand sanitizer, and CURIOSITY!

***This field trip is intended for B.C. K-12 teachers. If you are not a B.C. K-12 teacher, you will be moved onto the waitlist and only confirmed pending available room after registration closes***

MineralsEd is an educational organization operating in British Columbia that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting Earth science, mineral resources and mining education in school.

Our main roles are to support teachers in their development of classroom materials related to minerals, mining and geoscience, and to deliver workshops, field trips and other mineral-relevant learning opportunities for teachers and students.

Our goals are to foster a well-informed public through school education based on accurate and balanced minerals information, and to stimulate young peoples’ interest in minerals industry careers.
